We believe that the true meaning of the word Restoration is hidden behind the work of the men and women that repair the damage caused to a work of art, both by the course of time and the carelessness of man.
Any restoration is founded on the practical principle that “only the material of the work of art should be restored“.
A work of art enbodies both an aesthetic reality and a historical one. While restoring a work of art one of these two aspects may require more attention than the other. Normally though, both realities have to be equally taken into consideration. Therefore, restoration must always respect the potential unity of the work of art without creating a fake and without erasing all the traces of the passage of time.
